COVID19 - A Message to the public from the Palouse Specialty Physicians

Bryan D. Smith, MD

Bryan D. Smith

Dr. Bryan D. Smith grew up in Wenatchee, Washington, which makes him a native of the Pacific Northwest.  He attended Walla Walla University and graduated in 1990 with a BS degree in Biology and a minor in English.  After college, he spent a summer teaching biology labs at WWU Rosario Marine Station and then a semester doing research at Argonne National Laboratory outside Chicago.  Following that, Dr. Smith decided it was time to get serious about his medical career and attended Loma Linda University Medical School on a Navy scholarship, graduating in 1999.

His General Surgery Internship was done through Portsmouth Naval Hospital in Virginia in 2000, after which he returned to Loma Linda where he married to his wife Janelle and completed a urology residency in 2004. Dr. Smith and Janelle had their first child and then embarked to a Naval Hospital in Yokosuka, Japan for a two-year tour as part of his education payback. When the tour was competed, he returned to the U.S. and was stationed at National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda Maryland where he worked through the completion of his military obligation in 2008.

From 2008 to 2012, Dr. Smith practiced urology in Vancouver Washington after which he thought a sunnier climate might be a good idea. That thought inspired a two-year stint in Sacramento, CA, and wound up proving sunnier California didn’t have anything on his Northwestern birthplace.  Dr. Smith and his wife have four girls and now live in Moscow, Idaho, where they’re happy to be back in the country and closer to family in Eastern Washington.

He’s practiced adult and pediatric general urology here in Palouse since 2014 and insists he’s here to stay.  He treats a range of conditions related to urology, including, including cancer, kidney stones, Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), infections, infertility, incontinence, ED, voiding dysfunction and other complaints. Dr. Smith is experienced in surgery including robotics, minimally invasive endoscopic surgery, major and minor open surgery and office-based procedures.

When he’s not in the office, odds are you’ll find him in the great outdoors, where he enjoys road cycling, mountain biking, hiking, motorcycles, general aviation, water and snow skiing, reading and family.
